Thank you so much! The kids and i are up in Tully at the moment replanting yasi gardens very excited and looking forward to a family holiday, husband and 5 kids have all contibuted to disaster recovery. Thank you Michelle for nominating me.

  2. Michelle DeNichilo via Facebook says:

Well done Justine, you totally deserve this! In fact, even your kids have played a big part in helping those devastated by cyclones and floods. Seeing photos of your kids helping replant gardens is just amazing. Looks like you all made a huge impact on those Tully locals. Plus your eldest daughter I recall helped you sort and catalogue donations. What a great reward for you and family. May you all enjoy this holiday reward!

  3. Michelle DeNichilo says:

Even while this was being announced, Justine was busy helping those families devastated in Tully by Cyclone Yasi by helping them replant their gardens and vege patches. Traveling with kids in tow to deliver plants to houses, farms and caravan parks. Even Justine’s children got in and helped them plant herbs and veges, making a huge impact on Tully locals.

What a great reward for not only Justine but also her children who are learning at their young age the importance of helping those in need. Even Justine’s eldest had helped her with sorting and cataloguing donations when they came in at the Donations Centre she had volunteered at. And her other younger children had given up some of their most cherished toys to give away to kids who they thought might appreciate them.

You all deserve this win Justine, may you all enjoy a great family holiday!

  4. Well good for you Justine. I don’t know you, have never met you but have heard of you and who you have connections with.

I wonder why we couldn’t see all the votes so I emailed the resort how they came to the conclusion. Here is the reply I received today which smacks…. Wonder how long it will take before they remove this -

Thanks for your email regarding our Nominate a Hero competition.

As this competition was conceived and run by Culgoa Point Beach Resort, the resort reserved the right to submit votes on its behalf by way of a voting panel consisting of resort management and marketing team (5 in total). All of the resort voting panel voted for Justine and when total votes were tallied she was selected as the winning ‘hero’.

We would have loved to have been able to give all the ‘hero’s’ a free holiday as they all truly deserved one. However, we have offered all ‘hero’s’ and their nominators special rates in the hope that they will be able to take the opportunity to take a well deserved break.

Thank you once again for your interest in Culgoa Point Beach Resort.

    Best wishes

    Kathy Smith

    Resort Manager

  5. Alison I am very sorry you feel the way you do and we are all a bit surprised at no time did we mention that your votes would be the only ones counted, you were invited to vote only to allow interaction and open sentiment to sway our own decision in the process of choosing a winner, we took into account your sentiments and the sentiments of the organisers as well.

We have at all times been open and up front and we wish all the nominated people all the best and this whole competition was set up only to bring to light those very hero’s – not so much about who won as making sure these amazing people were given a chance to have their story heard and we accomplished that didn’t we?

The whole point of this competition was for our resort to find a way to honour these people and as far as we are concerned we have done that in our own small way – all the best to you

  6. All comments are still here I can see them all and there are quite a few, lovely to see all the congratulations pouring in – interestingly we could have just randomly chosen the winner ourselves as we were going to do right from the start and nothing would have been said at all about all this – we believe this is a storm in a teacup – what you really have to understand is that we didn’t have to run this competition or give away a holiday at all – we did all of this out of the goodness of our hearts – isn’t that enough? We are sorry they all can’t be winners – but the truth is that there are heaps of people who could have been nominated who would more than likely have deserved a holiday too and they continue to do great work – unsung!
